Kiwanis Dictionary Project Print E-mail
reading_boyThe Merrillville Kiwanis Clubs joined together to make sure that every third grade student in the Town of Merrillville will be able to have their very own dictionary.

Club members personally distribute dictionaries to classrooms in the Merrillville Community Schools and Aquinas School.

Each dictionary is personalized with the student's name. Students keep and use their dictionaries throughout their academic years and into college.

Helping to Increase Literacy Print E-mail

DictionaryMerrillville 3rd graders show off their new dictionaries.The Merrillville Kiwanis Clubs joined together to make sure that every third grade student in the Merrillville schools will be able to have their very own dictionary.

In April, 2007, Club members personally distributed 544 dictionaries to 26 classrooms in the Merrillville Community Schools and Aquinas School.

Dictionaries will again be given to all third grade students this year. The Merrillville Kiwanis Clubs plan to make this an annual project for many years to come!

Merrillville, IN, August 22, 2008– As a high school teacher, Barbara Koby’s focus was always on her students.

Although Koby, a Crown Point resident, is retired now from the Merrillville school system, her focus has not changed.

Her work with the Merrillville Noon Kiwanis Club attests to this.
