When asked about the recent growth of the Merrillville Club, President Barb Koby responded, “Our message of ‘changing the world one child and one community at a time’ is spreading, and people want to be a part of that. Also, our local business people are realizing that Kiwanis offers unique networking opportunities that is not only good for our members and their businesses, but helps the community as a whole.”
The Round Up event occurs at an ideal time, right before the group’s biggest fundraising event. “With another boost in our membership, our annual peanut sales could set new records,” said Woods. “Every extra dollar that we can generate will go to support programs such as the Merrillville High School Kiwanis Scholarship and Merrillville Kiwanis Dictionary Project.” Anyone interested in more information about the peanut sales or wishing to preorder cases of peanuts can call Barb Koby at (219)613-0727. The Kiwanis Club of Merrillville is involved with projects geared towards advancing the prospects of the community's children. In addition to several local organizations, Kiwanis supports charities such as Riley Ronald McDonald House and Children's Hospital.
